Trucks, serving as the lifeblood of global commerce, play an indispensable role in connecting production centers with markets, thereby driving economic growth. However, the inherent risks associated with their size and weight necessitate stringent safety measures, especially on long-distance routes like the B2. 

With an astonishing statistic revealing a truck passing through Karibib every two minutes, the economic significance of this route cannot be overstated. Thus, the Truckers Road Safety Information Day, held on 15 May 2024, assumed paramount importance in fostering a culture of safety among truckers.

A diverse array of stakeholders, including AA Namibia, the Namibia Road Safety Forum (NRSF), the Roads Authority of Namibia (RA), the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA Fund), the Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG), the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) Traffic Law Enforcement, and Local Authority Traffic departments, collaborated to deliver informative sessions and practical demonstrations. 

Topics covered included:

• Maintaining safe following distances
• Tire maintenance
• Combating alcohol and drug usage
• Utilising designated resting areas
• Adhering to weight regulations
• Promoting driver wellness
• Ensuring cross-border permits compliance
• Handling abnormal loads
• Navigating night driving challenges
• Minimising distractions behind the wheel

The event's objectives centered on enhancing awareness and understanding of critical road safety issues, equipping truck drivers with practical information and guidelines, and fostering a sense of responsibility and compliance with regulations. Beyond the informative sessions, traffic checkpoint activities were scheduled to continue on 16 and 17 May 2024 to reinforce safety compliance among truckers traversing this vital transportation route.
