The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) is set to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in an official capacity for the first time, representing its Members from around the world in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

As the global voice of motor sport and mobility users, the FIA will share its unique perspective at its event hosted on Transport Day (6 December at 10am – Green Zone Main Stage - Al Forsan Park). The event will gather experts and leaders across motor sport and mobility for discussions around the circular economy, the transfer of technology from the track to the road, and road transport policy.

The FIA represents 80 million road users worldwide and has an unparalleled understanding of their views and experiences as well as local challenges, implementation, and action. Through its Members, it also has the ability to actively engage road users, facilitate knowledge transfer, and positively change behaviour. 

The FIA’s global perspective is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to decarbonisation and the Federation is committed to pursuing a just transition towards a sustainable, safe, inclusive, and accessible mobility.

The FIA has a legacy of championing and spreading innovation from motor sport to mobility, delivering transformative solutions for every day. At COP28, the FIA will showcase its existing initiatives to decarbonise motor sport and mobility, and how these can be accelerated and scaled for a low carbon future that doesn’t leave anyone behind.

This includes initiatives such as the FIA Sustainable Mobility Programme, funded by the FIA Foundation, which supports sustainable, accessible, and inclusive mobility projects. The FIA is also partnering with international organisations such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), through the Safer and Cleaner Used Vehicles project which aims to facilitate the development of policies and standards on used vehicles to meet the increasing mobility needs of low- and middle income countries while protecting the environment. In addition, the FIA is aiming for net zero World Championships by 2030, and for 100% sustainable energy across the same competitions by 2026.

“During the event, we will highlight the environmental sustainability achievements and initiatives of our whole membership community and our Championships and show how we work together to contribute to making a real change.”

At COP28, the FIA will be able to further discussion about the future of sustainable motor sport and mobility and foster collaboration with governments, global businesses, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
