ETRC: Kiss dominates in Slovakia to take championship lead

Norbert Kiss took four Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship victories out of four races held over the course of the weekend at the Slovakia Ring where round two of the series took place

The Hungarian was on the pace in Slovakia from the off, clinching his third pole position of the 2023 season and then converting it into a commanding victory in rain-delayed race one, where he took the checkered flag with over a 20-second lead.

He then doubled up, in what was another masterclass display of racing in mixed conditions from the four-time series champion. Starting from eight on the grid, Kiss quickly worked his way up the order. With three laps to go, he pulled off a great move up the inside of his arch-rival Jochen Hahn to take the lead and eventually win the race.

Sunday started with yet another pole position for Kiss, followed by yet another victory. Race three of the weekend was initially red-flagged following an opening lap incident, but when it eventually got underway, Kiss slowly started eking out his lead on fellow front-row starter Sascha Lenz and went on to take his third victory of the weekend.

But the Hungarian reigning champion wasn’t done yet. Starting from eighth on the grid, he had to work hard to hustle through the field.

Racing respectfully and cleanly, he found himself challenging Hahn for the lead yet again. A textbook Kiss move saw him progress past the German to take his fourth victory in as many races.

Following the season-opening Misano event, Kiss was only third in the standings, nine points down on Jochen and three on second-placed Antonio Albacete.

After a spending weekend at the Slovakia Ring, the Hungarian ace settled into the lead with 96 points to his name, 15 ahead of Hahn, with Albacete rounding out the top three, a further two points down.

The next stop on the Goodyear FIA ETRC calendar is Tor Poznań, hosting its maiden truck racing event from 24-25 June.
