Many supporters around the globe watched the achievements by FIA Formula 3 European Champion Felix Rosenqvist (Prema Powerteam) or those of the best rookie driver, Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing). With interim figures published in October last year, the final media figures for the 2015 season are now available.

Last year marked the third season after the comeback of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and on-site attendance figures remained at a high level. In total, 586,500 fans attended the eleven race weekends, held in eight different countries. With 135,000 spectators, the three races during the season finale at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg attracted the biggest crowd, closely followed by the Norisring in Nuremberg with 123,000 spectators. On average, over 53,000 spectators flocked to the race track each weekend and they were treated to excellent motorsport action.

Those unable to watch the action on-site had the opportunity to follow the over 30 young and ambitious drivers on the TV screens. From April till October, 2015, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship reached over 2,785 hours of air time worldwide, an increase of over 200 hours compared to the same period in 2014. With almost 2,500 hours of coverage, the majority was broadcast in Europe, the home continent of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. In Europe alone, over 112 million fans watched the almost 3,400 programmes, spread over 90 TV stations. Thus, the number of viewers in the most important market of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship doubled compared to 2014 whilst the number of broadcasts increased by 90 percent. All over the world, more than 188 million fans watched the almost 6,500 broadcasts of the sometimes spectacular races.

In 2015, German news channel n-tv, Motors TV in France, Great Britain and all over Europe were again four of the most important live TV partners in the European core market. Together, they reached almost 70 hours of live broadcasts and 2.9 million live viewers. Next to the live broadcasts, Eurosport again showed its 26 minutes long magazine in the week after the races solely focusing on the competitive junior race series. With highlights from the three races, background stories, driver portraits and technical features, spectators got a varied and exclusive glance behind the scenes of the series. Almost four million fans saw the magazine on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 in 2015.

The official FIA Formula 3 European Championship website remains very popular as well. On average, the live stream attracted over 100,000 users per event and from November, 2014 till November, 2015, the website was visited over 570,000 times. The official FIA Formula 3 European Championship Facebook page had over 11,000 followers at the beginning of 2016, almost 2,000 fans more than at the start of the season, ten months earlier. On Twitter, almost 7,800 people followed the activities of the world’s biggest young talents in motorsport at the beginning of this year. Here, with 2,300 more followers, there is a significant increase as well compared to the previous year. The FIA Formula 3 European Championship reaches similarly good rates with its own Youtube channel. From November, 2014 till November, 2015, almost 200 new subscribers on average registered each month. This is also reflected by the increased number of over 28,000 videos viewed by users each month. The comprehensive portfolio on Youtube includes lights-to-flag coverage of all races, brief highlight reports of the various events, background stories and even the magazines previously broadcast on Eurosport.

Print media also clearly took notice of the young drivers who are still in the early stages of their careers. In the European key markets Austria, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK, over 1,900 reports from November, 2014 till October, 2015 were printed with a circulation of over 150 million copies. Both the number of publications and the circulation increased compared to 2014 and thus clearly reflects the increasing interest for the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in traditional media outlets as well.
