FE - Jean-Eric Vergne lowers lap record for Techeetah
Jean-Eric Vergne (Techeetah) set a new Formula E lap record around the Donington Park GP circuit on the second day of FIA Formula E pre-season testing - posting a 1:29.634s.
Vergne’s effort on his first official outing for Techeetah is three-tenths quicker than the previous best of Lucas di Grassi (ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport), who clocked a 1:29.920s on day four of testing last season.
“Today was really good considering we haven’t been driving at all this summer while other teams have covered a lot of mileage,” said Vergne. “I’m really pleased how the day went - we went through many things and we still need to catch-up compared to the other teams to understand the new powertrain but the team have done a really good job. The pure performance already seems to be there!”
Mahindra Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist showed he has quickly got to grips with the fully-electric M3Electro ending the day second fastest, under a tenth adrift of Vergne at the top of the timesheet. Reigning champion and the fastest driver on day one of testing, Sebastien Buemi (Renault e.Dams) ended the session in third - the only other driver to surpass di Grassi’s lap record.
Daniel Abt (ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport) improved his time in the afternoon session to finish fourth - half a second adrift of Vergne. DS Virgin’s Sam Bird ended the day with the fifth fastest time, with Nick Heidfeld (Mahindra Racing) and Nico Prost (Renault e.Dams) following close behind.
The Faraday Future Dragon Racing pairing of Jerome D’Ambrosio and Loic Duval finished eighth and ninth respectively, along with NextEV’s Oliver Turvey who rounded out the top-10 on the second day of pre-season testing.
