Tibor Erdi Jnr and Zoltan Csoko took their debut win in the FIA European Historic Rally Championship in their home event in Hungary but the loss of four-wheel drive on the final two stages nearly allowed the Lancia Rally 037 of Ville Silvasti and Risto Pietilainen to spoil the party. The Finns finished the tenth and final stage just 0.9 seconds behind the Hungarians.

Hungarian crew Tibor Erdi Jnr and Zoltan Csoko finished the opening day of the 55th Mecsek Rallye at the head of the table after posting the fastest overall time on Stages 3 and 4 in the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4. Erdi and Csoko are just 6.6s ahead of the Audi quattro of ‘Zippo’ and Denis Piceno after the Italian crew set the pace in the two morning stages.

Ciprian Lupu refuses to allow disability prevent him from pursuing his motorsport dreams. Ciprian is the first wheelchair user in his country to have a race car license issued by the Sports Automobile Romanian Federation (FRAS) and to officially participate in motorsport competitions. In 2021, the 38-year-old Romanian became the first wheelchair user with tetraplegia to win a National Rally Championship. Next month, together with co-driver Andrei Pintilii, he will compete in Rally Roma Capitale, part of the FIA European Rally Championship calendar. When he is not competing, Ciprian is the regional manager for Motivation Romania – an organization which provides wheelchairs and independent living training to change for the better the lives of people with disabilities in Romania. In this Q&A with fia.com, he reveals the challenges he has overcome – and offers motivation to fellow disabled competitors.
