WEC - Porsche and Ferrari Continue to Set the Pace at Silverstone
Brendon Hartley set a 1m39.655, 2.5 seconds quicker than this morning’s best time and faster than the average 2015 pole position time of 1m39.721.
The no2 Porsche was second fastest but 1.689 seconds adrift of their world championship winning teammates, with Romain Dumas setting the best time of 1m41.344s. The no8 Audi of Loïc Duval was third quickest, 0.11 behind the no2 Porsche and 0.069s ahead of the no6 Toyota of Kamui Kobayashi.
The two Rebellion R-Ones bounced back in the second session with the no13 car of Mathéo Tusher setting a 1m46.428 lap ahead of the no12 R-One and no4 Bykolles CLM-AER.
The LMP2 field was split by frabctions of a second with the top 5 cars split by four tenths of a second. Strakka Racing finished day one as the quickest P2 car as the Silverstone based team’s Gibson-Nissan set a 1m49.632 lap with Jnny Kane at the wheel. The no44 Manor Oreca 05 was second quickest with James Jakes finishing the session just 0.064s behind the Strakka and 0.061s ahead of the no36 Signatech Alpine of Gustavo Menezes.
The AF Corse Ferraris finished the day as 1-2 in the LMGTE Pro class with the no51 F488 of James Calado setting a 2m00.107 lap, 0.199 ahead of the no71 sister car of fellow Brit Sam Bird. The no77 Dempsey Proton Porsche of Richard Lietz was third quickest with a 2m01.314 lap.
The LMGTE Am field was headed by the no856 Gulf Racing Porsche with Adam Carroll posting a 2m02.081 lap, 0.707 seconds ahead of the no98 Aston Martin Vantage of Pedro Lamy and 0.890s ahead of the no50 Larbre Competition Chevrolet Corvette of Pierre Ragues.
Qualifying for the 6 Hours of Silverstone takes place at 11h50 tomorrow with the 20-minute GTE session out on track first followed by the LMP session at 12h20.
The 6 Hours of Silverstone will take place on Sunday 17 April at 12h00.
