Penalties for Raikkonen, Ricciardo in Canada
09.06.13
Lotus and Toro Rosso drivers handed grid drops after pit lane rule infringement.
Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen and Toro Rosso’s Daniel Ricciardo have been handed grid penalties for the Canadian Grand Prix.
Both drivers were demoted two places following an incident at the restart of Q2 following the red flags for Felipe Massa’s crash at Turn 3. Both Raikkonen and Ricciardo started from outside the fast lane of pit lane, which was deemed by the FIA stewards to be a breach of Article 23.6 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.
As Raikkonen was penalised first, he initially drops to P11, with Ricciardo rising to ninth. But when the Toro Rosso driver takes his demotion, the Finn climbs back to 10th. Ricciardo will thus start 11th. Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg, meanwhile, rises to ninth on the grid.
