During three months, supported by the National Road Safety Council, primary and secondary teachers received road safety training from the traffic Police Education Unit and the AAT Driving School, with an emphasis on road signs. Participants received training equipment such as reflective jackets, Stop&Go signs or signboards and were delivered certificates upon completion of the training.

The initiative was met with great, tangible success. Indeed, according to Mr Mpinga, Tanzania Traffic Commander, there has been a serious decrease in road accidents since the project began. While 24 schools were initially targeted to participate in the initiative, ultimately 51 benefited from it. As a result, almost one thousand teachers have been trained. Eventually, AAT aims to reach 50,000 children.

The project caught the media's attention and has been covered by daily newspapers, blogs and online TV channels.

The AAT believes education can have a major impact on Tanzanian youth. In continuation of this awareness campaign, five school areas have been selected in Dar Es Salaam to be equipped with road signs in support of the UN Global Road Safety Week (8-14 May 2017) with funding coming from the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme under the Global Action Stream.
