The 2018 FIA Karting European Superkart Championship is taking place according to a programme identical to that of the last two seasons. It starts at Donington on 2nd and 3rd June with a particularly consistent set of 23 entries gathering all the usual protagonists, while the FIA Superkart Mono Cylinder Cup has not been renewed.

This first European Competition is included in an expanded meeting dedicated to Karting. The CIK-FIA Superkart European Championship will continue at Assen, in the Netherlands, from 17th to 19th August and finish with Le Mans in France on 27th and 28th October.

As in previous years, the duel in prospect concerns the last two title-winning Drivers; the German Peter Elkmann (Anderson / VM) against the Czech Adam Kout (MSkart / DEA). Peter Elkmann finally reclaimed this title in 2018, confirming the constant improvement of his perfectly analysed performances and continuous racing in several disciplines. He is on great form and continues to establish his current supremacy in Superkart. The double European Champion 2015 and 2016, this season Adam Kout has decided to restrict his programme to only the European Championship. He has not run yet, unlike his opponent, so his degree of progress remains unknown before the first round, but his talent and careful preparation speak well for his chances.

Among the potential candidates for the podium, the one to watch carefully is Liam Morley (Anderson / DEA). The fast Briton has become a regular on European podiums. 3rd overall in 2015 and 2017, he should, on his home turf, be one of the most likely to interfere in the fight for the podium, especially as along with Kout he will be one of the two reference Drivers using the engine manufacturer DEA. The second Briton most likely to perform well is Daniel Clark (Anderson / VM). Already spectacular at Donington last year, the Redspeed team Driver should be among the leaders on the Leicestershire circuit.

Not to be overshadowed by his compatriot Elkmann, Andreas Jost (Anderson / VM) is able to fight for the victory, thanks to a more reliable engine than last year. After 2017, he has confirmed his intention of challenging, even managing to finish ahead of Elkmann at Dijon during the last confrontation between the continental Drivers at the end of April. Finally, the Belgian Yannick de Brabander (Mskart / VM), who discovered the discipline with great success in 2016 but experienced some disappointments last year, remains a potential contender. The Donington Competition favoured him in 2017 with a win and a podium.

Others will lead the chasing group and try to score good points. This is probably the case for the Dutchman Marcel Maasmann (Anderson / VM) who focuses on this Championship. The UK delegation can also count on Carl Hulme (Anderson / VM). It is worth mentioning the return to competition, for a one-off opportunity, of the former double World Champion Poul V Petersen. The creator of PVP engines continues an astonishing career at more than 60 years of age.

The track record has been held by Elkmann with 1'26''257 since 2017.
