13 drivers under 2min12second barier in fast second day practice
Eighteen year old British driver Callum Ilott (Van Amersfoort ) became the first of a flying field of drivers to break into the near-lap-record 2min10sec lap times at the Macau Grand Prix in the second day of practice for Sunday’s FIA F3 World Cup.
Ilott used the last moments of a red flag shortened practice session to record a best time of 2min10.70secs , just 0.5sec outside the circuit lap record .
Chinese drivers Ye Hong Li ( B-Max) and Zhou Guanyu (Motopark) crashed heavily after Li struck the barrier and was hit amidships by Zhou.
Indian driver Arjun Maini (Motopark) was one of the biggest improvers,
Maini was second fastest in a close packed field on 2min11.203- 1.4seconds faster than his best in yesterday’s first session of qualifying.
The top seven drivers undercut yesterday’s provisional pole time set by Antonio Felix Da Costa (Carlin).
Da Costa (Carlin) underlined his smooth progression with a time 0.1sec faster than provisional pole.
Drivers face the possibility of rain when they enter the second qualifying session at 2.55pm local time this afternoon.
