There’s always been a great passion for motor racing in the oldest republic in the world, that of San Marino.

For over twenty years, the “Most Serene Republic” as it’s known gave its name to one of the longest standing races on the Formula 1 calendar. It took place at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola and it was actually on the banks of the river Santerno that was born the relationship between the Republic and the then Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal, Jean Todt, today the FIA President.

The relationship grew stronger over the years and so it’s no surprise that Todt wished to be present last Friday at the annual prizegiving ceremony for winners of the Campionato Federale di San Marino and for all those who had distinguished themselves, either competing or on the organizational side, in 2015. The event was organised by FAMS, the San Marino Motoring Federation, at San Marino’s Palazzo Kursaal.

In attendance along with Todt, who is also Honorary President of FAMS, was the Secretary of State for Tourism, Teodoro Lonfernini and the President of CONS, the San Marino Olympic Committee, Gian Primo Giardi, with Giovanni Zonzini doing the honours for FAMS, in his role as President. The following day, Todt was received by senior leaders of the Republic, with whom he discussed possible joint initiatives between the FIA, FAMS and San Marino regarding mobility and road safety.
